GaMerZ WordPress Plugins Update

Lester Chan’s GaMerZ has announced that he has unleashed the first wave of updates for 11 of his WordPress plugins. These include:

WP-EMail 2.30
WP-PageNavi 2.30
WP-PluginsUsed 1.30
WP-Polls 2.30
WP-PostRatings 1.30
WP-Print 2.30
WP-RelativeDate 1.30
WP-ServerInfo 1.30
WP-Sticky 1.30
WP-Stats 2.30
WP-Useronline 2.30

The remaining four plugins, WP-Ban, WP-DBManager, WP-DownloadManager, and WP-PostViews will be updated in wave two. Lester has stated that all of these plugins should work in WordPress 2.5 only and they have not been tested in any version below 2.5. Also worthy of note is that the folder path of some of the plugins have been fixed. Previously, the path was nested in another folder which generated a ton of hate mail for Lester because it broke automatic updates. Now that the path has been fixed, the automatic plugin upgrade feature should work correctly.

*Note* I updated my GaMerZ plugins today on my personal blog through the plugin upgrader in 2.5 and all of them were upgraded successfully.

Lester has been developing plugins for WordPress for quite some time now. We have praised Lester’s work at various occasions and we use many of his plugins actively on this site (including the post rating system you see below). He is a meticulous coder, provides extensive documentation, download options and demos and even provides his own support forums. Please be patient with his server, it takes a while to load the linked page but the downloads are mirrored, so they should be quick.

On my own blog, I’m using at least seven of his plugins. If you are using one or more of Lester’s plugins, let us know in the comments.

I use WP-Polls (just started it), seems pretty good. I’ve used a couple of others in the past though.

Incidentally because your comment form appears below your sidebar (which is longer than your content) I didn’t see it at first. Lazy browsing on my part I know!

I’m glad to hear he is updating the plugins. He is a great contributer to the WordPress community. I would not be at all surprised if he was the next person to join the WordPress core team of developers. He’s got the right stuff.

As for me, I use only one of his plugins at the moment. His post ratings plugin. I think it’s great! I’m also looking for a good excuse to use some of his other plugins.

I’m a big fan of Lester’s plugins. I currently use WP-DBManager, WP-PageNavi and WP-Sticky and would recommend fellow bloggers check out his work.

Thanks so much for the compliments Jeff! I think the server is being hammered right now after this post. Can I ask in general is my site slow to load? Because I just move this server to another data center in Singapore

Lester also does a good job of following up threads on the WordPress Support Forums, especially if the thread is tagged with the tag appropriate for each plugins. Example http://wordpress.org/tags/wp-polls

I use many of Lester’s plugins (most of the ones listed above plus a few) and promote them to others whenever I can. Lester is a student and does the plugin development in his spare time, so I always encourage folks who use his plugins to donate a few bucks to him now and then (and to other plugin developers as well) - they make our life so much easier!

I use Email and Print. Neither are used heavily by my readers, but I love having the option available for them.

I’m using postratings and email on Tjuvlyssnat.se and Tjuvtittat.se, two of the largest humor blogs in Sweden (about 40.000 daily readers together). Both plugins work very well, and since the previous versions the performance has been OK. Tjuvlyssnat has had periods with over 12.000 postratings per day and almost a million ratings stored in the database, so I would say that those are great plugins.

DBManager, PostViews, Ban is done for wave 2, now I am full force coding downloadmanager as it a lot of work need to be done.

WordPress or Plugins should include a backup to changed files. I had to write a new CSS file for PageNavi because WordPress delete all files when i choose to auto update to the new version of WP-PageNavi.

@ajua: Normally I would not recommend using automatic upgrade. I have added a new feature. Just place pagenavi.css in your /wp-content/themes/THEME_NAME folder and from now on, pagenavi will load the pagenavi.css from there if it exists. So no more worries for overwriting anything.

GamerZ plugins are awesome! I’m using WP-DBManager and it works great. I’m planning to use WP-EMail soon but the last time I had some configuration problems. I need more time to setup .htaccess file in the right way.
